Hazel Park Head Start

Free Preschool Program

Head Start is a federally funded school readiness program for children who will be age 3 on or before December 1 of the current school year and children who will not be 5 until after December 1 of the current school year.  Families must meet federal eligibility requirements.  Head Start maintains a waiting list and recruits for the program all year.

Give your child a Head Start in school:
  • Classes meet Monday through Thursday
  • Mornings 7:45 to 11:15 or Afternoons 12:00 to 3:30
  • Breakfast and lunch or lunch and snack served daily
  • High/Scope curriculum
  • Families always welcome

Our staff includes:
  • A nurse, who follows children's physical development and supports families as they strive to assure the greatest possible health for their children.
  • A registered dietitian, who oversees our meal planning and works with families to improve nutrition and increase activity.
  • A social worker, who consults with staff to insure a healthy social climate in the classrooms, consults with parents regarding any mental health issues affecting the family, and provides child development and discipline support for families and staff upon request.
  • A family services/family involvement coordinator who can assist families in obtaining emergency services and serves as the volunteer liaison between staff and families.
