Our Programs
Infants
This program is designed for children birth through approximately 12 months of age (could be older depending upon motor development).  Child Observation Record (COR) notes are taken and assessed to monitor emerging developmental skills.  COR notes are taken daily.  Specific play activities are designed for each infant according to the results from the COR notes taken.  A primary caregiver is assigned to every four infants.  This primary caregiver is responsible for the diapering, feeding, cuddling and playtime of each infant.  All staff receives training appropriate for this age group.
Toddlers

This program is for children 12 months approximately to 33 months.  Child Observation Record (COR) notes are taken and assessed to monitor emerging developmental skills.  COR notes are taken daily.  Specific play activities are designed from COR notes for individuals and groups of toddlers to enhance and encourage their development through play.  A primary caregiver is assigned to every four toddlers.  This primary caregiver is responsible for the diapering, feeding, cuddling and playtime of each toddler.  Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided for toddlers except for Friday when children are asked to bring a bag lunch.  All staff receives appropriate training for this age.

Preschoolers
This program is designed for three and four year olds.  The High/Scope Model of “plan, do, review” is used.   Child Observation Record (COR) notes are taken and assessed to monitor emerging academic skills.  Large group, small group and individual activities are planned.

Wrap-Around
This program is designed to provide before and after school care for children attending other preschool programs in the Hazel Park School District.  Bus transportation to/from all the ECDD Programs in the district is provided.  Except for Fridays, breakfast, lunch and snack are provided.  Children are asked to bring a bag lunch on Friday.  All staff receives appropriate training for this age group.

Our Curriculum
We wanted to give our parents some information about High/Scope which is the curriculum we are modeling in each of our classrooms.  High/Scope's educational approach emphasizes “active participatory learning.”  Active learning means students have direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas. Children’s interests and choices are at the heart of our High/Scope program. They construct their own knowledge through interactions with the world and the people around them. Children take the first step in the learning process by making choices and following through on their plans and decisions. Caregivers and parents offer physical, emotional, and intellectual support. In active learning settings, adults expand children’s thinking with diverse materials and nurturing interactions. High/Scope assesses children’s development with comprehensive observations rather than narrow tests, using the Preschool Child Observation Record (COR) and Infant/Toddler Child Observation Record (COR). Observing a broad range of behaviors over several weeks or months gives us a more accurate picture of children’s true capabilities than tests administered in one-time sessions. Using the content areas as a framework, teachers record daily anecdotes describing what children do and say. Three times a year, we review these anecdotes and rate each child at the highest level he or she has demonstrated so far on 30 items for preschool and 28 for infants/toddlers in six areas of development: initiative, social relations, creative representation, movement and music, language and literacy, and logic and mathematics. Children’s COR scores help teachers design learning opportunities tailored to their level of development. The COR is also used to explain children’s progress to parents during conferences. Instead of only giving parents abstract scores, teachers share anecdotes illustrating what their children are doing now and how they will continue to grow.
