B.O.D. would like to thank all parents and guardians for their support that allows us to give back to the community. With your help we were able to provide 32 families (of HPHS students), with a complete, fully cooked Thanksgiving dinner from Kroger. We would not have been able to do such a thing had it not been for the students and staff of HPHS who donated nearly $1600 over a 3-week period!
December 7, B.O.D. representatives helped out at the annual Senior Citizens Concert held at Hazel Park Junior High. For the Christmas Holiday, canned goods and money collected are being used to help fill holiday baskets for Hazel Park residents in need.
Due to the American Red Cross’s dire need of blood donors, on December 15, B.O.D. hosted its second drive this school year. If you donate at a Red Cross location by January 8, you will be entered into a drawing for 2 round-trip tickets (anywhere in the continental U.S.), along with a $500 hotel voucher.
The week of December 14-18, B.O.D. will be hosting its 4th annual Winter Wish Week. Students were asked to write down a wish for themselves and one other. This year our goal is to grant 200 smaller wishes. On December 17th, the 2nd annual Holiday Charity Talent Show is being held. The admission cost is three can goods or $3.00. All proceeds will benefit the holiday baskets. The last class period, before Christmas break, there will be a holiday assembly taking place in the auditorium. During the assembly B.O.D. will revisit wishes that have been granted, grant larger, and hopefully more meaningful wishes, sing Christmas carols and have a festive time.
During the second half of the school year, B.O.D. plans to adopt the following charities: Camp Make-A-Wish, Dance Marathon of University of Michigan, Cystic Fibrosis, and The Maggie Lynn Foundation. In addition, as of now, upcoming 2010 events are: Field Day, Mock Rock, Pep Rally, Student/Staff auction, Mr. H.P.H.S., and Freshmen Pre-game. B.O.D. looks forward to your continued support.
