Mrs. Laura LaForme

Vice-President

Mrs. Laura LaForme and her husband are both lifelong residents of Hazel Park and both graduated from Hazel Park Schools.  Mrs. LaForme and her husband have two children. Emily attends Hazel Park Junior High, and their son Ethan is four years old.  Laura is a 3rd generation Hazel Park graduate, graduating in 1989.

Laura has an Associates Degree in Social Work.  She has become a Certified Board Member with the Michigan Association of School Board Members.  Laura is also a full time student at Oakland University completing a degree in Human Resources.  Aside from her career and school board activities, Laura LaForme is a member of the Hazel Park Lions Club, Secretary of the Hazel Park PTA Council, Chaired the 2009 HP Holiday Basket program, and an advocate of childhood cancer organizations.

Laura LaForme is a school board member because she believes in the students, employees, and the community. Laura advocates teamwork in the community to help stabilize the district during hard economic times.

Mr. Charles Hemple

Mr. Charles Hemple moved to Hazel Park with his family in 1980, and attended Webb Junior High.  Charles has been married for 15 years to his wife Sue who also attended Hazel Park Schools.  They have three children: Chuckie 11, Zack 6, and Raelyn 1.

Mr. Hemple graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1985.  He received further education from Macomb Community College and the Local 80 Training Center.  He has spent ten years in the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 80.  Aside from work, Mr. Hemple has spent time doing various other activities throughout the community, including the Downtown Development Authority, Health and Reproductive Committee, Parent Committee for Indian Education Program.  He is also a Precinct Delegate for the Democratic Party of Hazel Park and an Assistant Coach for 6th grade U.O. Boys Basketball.

Mr. Hemple got interested in what was going on in the school district when his son was born.  He thought he could make a difference and represent all students of Hazel Park.

Ms. Rose Mary Hammonds

Ms. Hammonds, more commonly known as Rosie, moved to Hazel Park in 1965 when her family purchased a home in the city.  After 43 years, she and her family still reside in Hazel Park.  Her sons, Hollis W and Billy, both attended Hazel Park Schools.  Rosie is blessed with four grandchildren, all of which attended Hazel Park Child Care programs and two of which attend Hazel Park Elementary Schools.

Rosie attended Detroit Public Schools Kindergarten through 9th grade.  In 1958, her family moved to Madison Heights and she finished high school there—graduating in 1961.  After graduation, she worked for a C.P.A.  She attended Oakland Community College, taking classes for an Associates Degree in Business Administration.

In September of 1977, Rosie started working for Hazel Park School District.  She started working as a hall monitor at the high school.  In March of 1979, she went to work in the Transportation Department driving a big yellow school bus, until her retirement in 2005.

After working for the Hazel Park School District for 27.5 years, she has seen changes both good and bad.  Rosie wants to make a difference not only for her grandchildren, but for all of the children of Hazel Park.

Mr. Clint Adkins
Trustee

Mr. Clint Adkins has been on the Hazel Park School Board since June 11, 1984.  He served as President for 18 years with distinction.  Mr. Adkins graduated from high school in Virgie, Kentucky.  His wife Kay graduated from the Hazel Park High School.  Mr. Adkins and his wife have three children: Mike, Nancy, and Bob, all of whom graduated from Hazel Park High School.  Clint and Kay also have five grandchildren—two that live in Minnesota and three that attend Hazel Park Schools.

Mr. Adkins retired from General Dynamics in 1997.  Although he is retired, he is as busy as ever devoting his time to his grandchildren, the Hazel Park Recreation Youth Programs, and his responsibilities as President of the Hazel Park Board of Education.  Clint has volunteered for many community activities in Hazel Park and was awarded the Lee O. Clark Humanitarian Award in 1994 and the Masonic Citizen of the Year Award in 1992.  At the Annual Spring Sports Banquet, an individual who shows leadership and guidance to student athletes is given the Clint Adkins Humanitarian Award.  

Mr. Adkins continues to exemplify humanitarianism in the Hazel Park Community.

Mrs. Sherrie Polowski

Mrs. Sherrie Polowski has been a Hazel Park Resident for 21 years.  She has been married to her husband Andy for 25 years.  They have three children—Andrea, Angela, and Andrew—all of which graduated from Hazel Park Schools.

Sherrie has been raising her children and taking care of her family since graduating from Royal Oak Schools.  She is involved with the National PTSA, Michigan PTSA, Hazel Park PTA Council, Lions Club, and the Senior All-Night Party.

Sherrie Polowski serves on the board because loves doing volunteer work and working together for all children.  She believes that Hazel Park is a great place and that she has a lot to offer the city and the district.

Mr. Melvin Rasmusson

Trustee

Mel Rasmusson has been a lifetime resident of Hazel Park Schools.  Four generations of his family attended HP schools, including him.

After graduating from HPHS, Mr. Rasmusson went to Eastern Michigan University and received his B.S. and M.A. Degrees.  Mel went on to teach at Lamphere, Van Dyke, and Hazel Park Schools.  He also spent time as an administrator for Van Dyke and Hazel Park Schools.  Throughout his career, Mr. Rasmusson has been involved with the Hazel Park Lions, Hazel Park Eagles, Hazel Park Masonic Lodge, Shriner, and PTA.

Mel continues to serve on the school board because he feels in a time when finances are short, that it is necessary that board members with experience be elected.
